Music Week coming soon!

ANNOUNCEMENT 7/19/2021: The concert portion of our Music Week Program has been cancelled due to rising COVID-19 case numbers in Muhlenberg County. However, the main program will continue with small groups for each Music Week session. We will be following all health and safety recommendations and guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

We’re so excited to welcome everyone to Muhlenberg County Public Libraries’ Music Week, coming July 26!

Music Week is four days of fun- and music-filled adventures featuring talented musicians Derek Harris and Paul Martin of the Misty Mountain String Band and the Blue Monroes.

Music Week kicks off with an informative, fun “music camp” for children ages 3 to 18. Each participating child can attend two sessions with Derek and Paul to view and learn more about various types of musical instruments. We’ll have an instrument “petting zoo,” where the children can get hands-on with the instruments, as well as crafts, singalongs and more.

Activities will vary depending on the child’s age.

We’ll hold sessions at both our Harbin Memorial and Central City library locations, so you can choose the location that works best for your family. Harbin Memorial will meet on Monday and Tuesday, and Central City will host the camp on Wednesday and Thursday.

The full schedule of sessions follows:

  • 9:30 a.m.-10 a.m. – Pre-K children (approximately ages 3 to 5)
  • 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – K-2nd grade
  • 1 p.m.-2 p.m. – 3rd-5th grade
  • 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. – Teens/tweens (6th-12th grade)

We ask each participant to choose their location at registration and only attend the sessions at that location, as space will be limited. However, each registered child can attend both days at their location of choice.

For example, a preschool-age child may attend on Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Harbin Memorial, or they may attend on Wednesday and Thursday at Central City.

As previously mentioned, space is limited, so we require pre-registration for this program. You can sign up for Harbin Memorial’s sessions at https://forms.gle/NAqyK4BwFKNjEezh6 or at https://forms.gle/1jEcWF5He4wzszdr6 for Central City’s sessions. Please sign up as soon as possible to secure your spot!

Music Week will end with a special free concert featuring Derek and Paul. A time and location will be announced later. All ages are welcome to attend.

Derek Harris is a native Muhlenberg Countian, but he now lives in Louisville, where he and Paul Martin play together in a couple of musical groups. They have also taught other lessons and music camps, and they previously visited us during Summer Reading 2019, where they led a similar program.

We’re very excited to welcome Derek and Paul back to Muhlenberg County Public Libraries!
