Muhlenberg County Public Libraries has another free public shred day event coming up soon!
Piranha Mobile Shredding of Evansville, Ind. will be on hand Friday, Oct. 11, at the Central City library to collect shreddable materials from community members.
The truck will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.
Library director Janet Harris said the library system previously hosted a shred day last April and decided to repeat the program based on the success of that earlier event. “We just like to offer people a chance to get rid of old documents and things they no longer need without just throwing them in the trash or having to spend too much of their own time with a personal-sized shredder,” Harris said. “We understand how quickly documents can pile up, even just those containing sensitive information, and how much time and effort it can take to safely dispose of them.”
She said all of the material collected by Piranha Shredding at the Community Shred Day will be recycled after it has been destroyed and personal information obliterated.
Each community member wishing to take advantage of the Shred Day opportunity may bring up to 100 pounds, or approximately four standard-sized paper boxes, of materials to the event for collection.
Acceptable materials include colored paper, white paper, computer printouts, copy paper, carbon-less paper, window envelopes and manila folders. Hanging file folders and documents with staples, paper clips or binder clips attached are okay to include, as well.
Newspaper, cardboard, carbon paper, kraft paper, plastic, magazines, 3-ring binders and batteries may not be included in the materials to be shredded.
Harris added that this is a collection event only – the actual shredding will take place later at Piranha’s facilities. Piranha will take care of transporting the materials and recycling them once the shredding process has been completed.
Community members attending the Shred Day event at the Central City library will not be charged for the service. Piranha also offers on-site shredding services at their facilities in Evansville; however, those services are not free.
Piranha emphasizes the security measures they take to keep community members’ information private, including carefully vetted employees and securely locked collection containers which are unloaded at least daily. They said documents are destroyed within 24 hours of collection, and even the resulting shreds are stored in a secure area until they can be transported to a paper mill for recycling.
More information about Piranha’s operations and security measures is available on their website at http://www.piranhashred.com.
The library’s free Community Shred Day event will take place at the Central City branch of Muhlenberg County Public Libraries, located at 108 East Broad Street in Central City, Ky. The Piranha Mobile Shredding truck will be set up in the library’s rear parking lot.
