MCPL names Kid Librarians for November

Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is proud to announce November’s Kid Librarian selections are Jaimee Rosenkranz and Lorelai Sharp.

Kid Librarians are chosen monthly to design a juvenile display at the library. Each Kid Librarian may choose a theme for their display, select library materials to highlight and decide how to organize and best show off the chosen titles. Two new Kid Librarians are selected each month, one at each library branch (Harbin Memorial and Central City).

Chosen Kid Librarians are acknowledged inside the library with a sign next to their display, as well as being recognized in the local newspapers and on the library’s website and social media accounts.

Central City’s Kid Librarian for November 2024 is Jaimee Rosenkranz. Rosenkranz is 9 years old and is in third grade. She enjoys reading true stories most of the time, but her favorite book is The Cat in the Hat. She likes how funny the story is, and, in fact, she names Dr. Seuss as her favorite author. When not reading, math is her favorite subject. Rosenkranz likes playing outside, especially on the swings. Even when it comes to travel, she would be content just to visit a park somewhere so she can enjoy nature. She is also an animal lover, as indicated by her book selections for this month’s display – they all feature animals. Rosenkranz also has a pet dog of her own that she enjoys taking care of and playing with.

Lorelai Sharp is Harbin Memorial Library’s pick for Kid Librarian of the month. Sharp is 11 years old and in fifth grade. She prefers to read fiction titles, and while she doesn’t have a favorite author, she said she really enjoys the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, especially The Third Wheel. She likes how the main character remembers things from even before he was born, like his mother playing music for him. As far as mothers go, Sharp, who is homeschooled, is proud to announce that her own mother recently authored and published her first book. Sharp has four brothers and several pets: two dogs, two turtles, a lot of fish and a cat named Bob Ross who, she said, likes to paint. Like Rosenkranz, Sharp names math as her favorite school subject, too. Her other favorite things include sushi, especially California rolls. She said she would even like to travel to Tokyo someday to enjoy the food there.

Rosenkranz’s and Sharp’s displays have been featured in the libraries through the month of November. They will be removed at the end of the month to make space for December’s Kid Librarian choices.

The Kid Librarian program is for children and teens in third through eighth grade. Applications for the program will open again at the beginning of December and each subsequent month for prospective participants. Applications are available at the front desk of each library branch.

For more information about the Kid Librarian program, contact Muhlenberg County Public Libraries at 270-338-4760 or stop by to fill out an application at the beginning of each month.
