Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is proud to announce Kid Librarian selections for December 2024 are Marlie Peveler and Tanner Beadnell.
Kid Librarians are chosen monthly to design a juvenile display at the library. Each Kid Librarian may choose a theme for their display, select library materials to highlight and decide how to organize and best show off the chosen titles. Two new Kid Librarians are selected each month, one at each library branch (Harbin Memorial and Central City).
Chosen Kid Librarians are acknowledged inside the library with a sign next to their display, as well as being recognized in the local newspapers and on the library’s website and social media accounts.
Harbin Memorial Library’s Kid Librarian for December 2024 is Marlie Peveler. Peveler, 10, is in fourth grade. Peveler’s favorite subject is science, and she’s a fan of non-fiction books, she said, because she enjoys learning about things that are real. She also enjoys both viewing and creating art. In fact, her favorite author, Raina Telgemeier, is an artist who creates graphic novels. Peveler’s favorite book is Smile, an autobiographical graphic novel by Telgemeier. She said she likes it because it talks about dentists, and she just thinks it’s a cool book. Her display for the month includes several graphic novels that she enjoys. Another of Peveler’s hobbies is archery; she just joined her school’s team. Peveler said she hopes to travel to her mother’s home state of Oregon one day. She visited previously when she was younger but doesn’t remember much from the trip and would like to see more now that she’s older.
Tanner Beadnell is Central City’s Kid Librarian for December. Beadnell is 12 years old and in the seventh grade. Like Peveler, Beadnell is a fan of graphic novels. He’s currently reading Picture Day, and his favorite author is Nick Bruel, author of the Bad Kitty series. His favorite book, Starfish by Lisa Fipps, is not a graphic novel, however, but is instead a novel-in-verse, which is a form of narrative poetry. Beadnell explained that the paragraphs are short and the story is entertaining. Beadnell said he really enjoys books and reads a lot, especially in English class. His favorite subject, though, is actually math. He also likes drawing and playing games, especially Roblox and Fortnite, and wants to visit Los Angeles someday to see the stars that live and work there.
Peveler’s and Beadnell’s displays are featured in the libraries through the month of December.
The Kid Librarian program is for children and teens in third through eighth grade. Applications for the program will open again at the beginning of January 2025 and each subsequent month for prospective participants. Applications are available at the front desk of each library branch.
For more information about the Kid Librarian program, contact Muhlenberg County Public Libraries at 270-338-4760 or stop by to fill out an application at the beginning of each month.
