Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is proud to name Brietta Call and Audrey Jenkins as Kid Librarians for August 2025.
Kid Librarians are chosen monthly to design a juvenile display at the library. Each Kid Librarian may choose a theme for their display, select library materials to highlight and decide how to organize and best show off the chosen titles. New Kid Librarians are selected each month for each library branch (Harbin Memorial and Central City).
Chosen Kid Librarians are acknowledged inside the library with a sign next to their display, as well as being recognized in the local newspapers and on the library’s website and social media accounts.
Central City’s Kid Librarian for August 2025 is Brietta Call. Call is 8 and in fourth grade. Her favorite subject is math, but she also loves to read and enjoys visiting the library because, she said, “There are so many books I can choose from!”  Her favorite author is Daisy Meadows, author of the Rainbow Magic series, but she enjoys mystery or fantasy, too, like The Misadventures of Edgar & Allan Poe. Call’s favorite book, however, is Candle Island by Lauren Wolk, about a girl who moves to an island and begins caring for a baby osprey (although she thinks it is a gull). Call also likes the book because the main character and her mother are both artists, which is what Call herself wants to be when she grows up. Call also has a not-so-hidden talent for solving jigsaw puzzles.
Audrey Jenkins is Harbin Memorial’s Kid Librarian for August. Jenkins, 14, had just completed eighth grade when she was chosen as Kid Librarian and will soon start high school. Jenkins’ favorite school subject is English, and she likes to visit the library because it’s easy to find new books to read. Jenkins has a special talent for speed-reading (and speed-talking), so being able to find more to read is important! She likes to read mysteries, especially murder mysteries, and her favorite author is mystery novelist April Henry. Her favorite book, however, is a little less scary – it’s Just Me and My Dad by Mercer Mayer, which has been a favorite for Jenkins since Kindergarten. Jenkins plans to be a labor and delivery nurse when she grows up, but for the time being, she enjoys just hanging out with friends and playing volleyball.
Kid Librarian displays are available at their respective library branches each month. They are removed the following month to make space for the next set of chosen Kid Librarians.
New Kid Librarians are chosen for each library branch each month. Applications for September’s Kid Librarians open August 25.
The Kid Librarian program is for children and teens in third through eighth grade. Applications are available at the front desk of each library branch.
