Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’s bringing back the Jubilee of Trees at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries’ Thistle Cottage!
After a three-year hiatus related to the pandemic and other issues, Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is gearing up to bring the beloved annual event back this holiday season.
The Jubilee of Trees opens with a Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Free cookies and cocoa will be available, along with holiday crafts. Even better, Thistle Cottage is welcoming an extra special guest from the North Pole for the event! Santa Claus will be on hand during the open house to meet and greet visitors and pose for photos against the beautiful backdrop of historic Thistle Cottage and the forest of decorated trees at the Jubilee.
Visitors who want to take pictures with Santa will need to bring their own cameras. Each guest will have a few moments to sit with Santa and to take the photos they want – and, of course, to share their wishlists – before Santa has to move on to the next guest.
The entire event is free and open to the public.
The Holiday Open House also serves as the opening ceremony for the Jubilee of Trees itself. The Jubilee features a forest of decorated trees sponsored by local businesses and organizations, all themed around children’s books. Each sponsor chooses their own theme, and every tree is different.
This year’s Jubilee includes a total of 16 decorated trees. Sponsors for 2023 include:
- Muhlenberg County Public Libraries
- All the Hits Star 107.3
- Catfish Dock
- Greenville Tourism Commission
- Home Town Heating & Cooling
- IGNITE Program
- Muhlenberg Arts Council
- Muhlenberg Community Theatre, Inc. (MCTI)
- Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center
- Muhlenberg County Tourism Commission
- Old National Bank
- Realtor Judy Westbrook
- Thistle Cottage Book Club
The Jubilee of Trees is free to visit and will be open to the public Dec. 2-29 during regular business hours, Mon.-Fri from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All visitors to the Jubilee will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite decorated tree. The winning tree’s sponsor will be recognized after the exhibit closes.
Visitors to the exhibit can also win prizes just by submitting their votes. Prize winners will be selected from the votes received in a blind drawing held at the end of the month-long celebration.
