Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is set to host a brand new community event next month, but we need community involvement to make it happen!
The library is planning a Community Art Show for September.
The art show is open to all Muhlenberg County adults and will be on display at Thistle Cottage September 3-28.
“We really want to get the community more involved,” Thistle Cottage Archivist Amie Waltrip explained. “And since we have so many talented people in this county, we thought this was a good way to highlight them and their work.”
Waltrip said she and her coworkers are currently accepting submissions for the art show. All artwork must be turned in at Thistle Cottage by 5 p.m. Friday, August 23 to be included in the show.
“We’re really hoping for a good turnout … we want everyone to have the chance to be included,” Waltrip said.
Thistle Cottage also hosts art shows for students every spring.
Guidelines for submissions to the adult Community Art Show are:
- Must be completed by an adult (18 or over) who currently lives, works or owns property in Muhlenberg County
- Must be suitable for a diverse, all-ages audience
- All media and forms of artwork are acceptable (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, needlework, etc.)
- Each artist may submit up to three pieces of work
- All artwork must be labelled with artist’s name, address and phone number and title of artwork
Additionally, Waltrip said, if more than one piece of art is submitted by a single artist, they should be ranked in order of priority. In the case of a shortage of gallery space, Muhlenberg County Public Libraries staff will display the highest priority artworks first to ensure that everyone has a chance to be included and show off their best or favorite works.
Muhlenberg County Public Libraries reserves the right to exclude any artwork that does not meet the guidelines above.
Waltrip said the art show will officially open on September 3 and will remain available to the public during business hours through the end of September. Thistle Cottage is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The building will also be open during Squash and Gobble on September 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
