Muhlenberg County Public Libraries is proud to announce March picks for Kid Librarian: Carrington Thompson and Kase Hunter.
Kid Librarians are chosen monthly to design a juvenile display at the library. Each Kid Librarian may choose a theme for their display, select library materials to highlight and decide how to organize and best show off the chosen titles. New Kid Librarians are selected each month for each library branch (Harbin Memorial and Central City).
Chosen Kid Librarians are acknowledged inside the library with a sign next to their display, as well as being recognized in the local newspapers and on the library’s website and social media accounts.
Central City’s Kid Librarian for March 2025 is Carrington Thompson. Thompson is 11 years old and in the sixth grade. She loves reading and hopes to someday be an author. English/Language Arts is her favorite subject in school. Thompson’s favorite author is Gordon Korman, although she didn’t include any of his books in her display. She gravitates mostly toward realistic fiction, and her favorite book is The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. Aside from reading, Thompson has several other hobbies — she is on the archery and academic teams at school and has been in several plays with Muhlenberg Community Theatre, Inc. She also hopes to travel to Paris, France someday to see landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and to try a real French baguette. Thompson was assisted by her little sister, Harris, in assembling her Kid Librarian display.
Kase Hunter is Harbin Memorial’s Kid Librarian for March 2025. Hunter, 12, is in fifth grade. In addition to reading, he enjoys math — it’s his favorite school subject — and he is a fan of non-fiction titles. He especially likes reading about hunting and books about the military, which he hopes to join when he becomes an adult. Hunter’s favorite book series, however, is the Dog Man book series by Dav Pilkey. He loves animals and nature, and many of his hobbies involve being outdoors. He hopes to someday take another trip to the ocean to play on the beach and collect seashells. Hunter has also been involved in motocross since the age of 10.
Thompson’s and Hunter’s displays will be removed in early April to make space for the next set of chosen Kid Librarians.
New Kid Librarians are chosen for each library branch at the beginning of each month.
The Kid Librarian program is for children and teens in third through eighth grade. Applications are available at the front desk of each library branch.
