Ky. Chautauqua – Adolph Rupp

Join Muhlenberg County Public Libraries in welcoming Kentucky Chautauqua’s Edward B. Smith as Adolph Rupp to the Central City library on Aug. 23! The free program starts at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Rupp is a very recognizable name in Kentucky. He is famous for coaching the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team for 42 years, from 1930 until 1972. During his tenure, Kentucky’s basketball program prospered, growing to epic levels of popularity that the team still enjoys today.
Rupp Arena, where the Wildcats still play home games, is named in honor of Adolph Rupp.
Rupp is portrayed by performer Edward B. Smith from Cynthiana.
Kentucky Chautauqua is an exclusive presentation of Kentucky Humanities with local funding provided by the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation. This program is presented in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution’s Hometown Teams exhibit, also locally sponsored by Kentucky Humanities. The Hometown Teams exhibit will be on display at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries’ Thistle Cottage Aug. 25-Sept. 29, 2018.
Hometown Teams has been made possible at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries by Kentucky Humanities with additional support from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Hometown Teams is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.
