Join Muhlenberg County Public Libraries in welcoming Kentucky Chautauqua’s Virgil Covington, Jr. as he presents his show, “William Wells Brown: How I Got My Name”!
William Wells Brown was the first African-American to become a published novelist and playwright. Although he was born to an enslaved mother and spent his young life in that horrendous environment, he escaped to freedom in 1834. He became an advocate for abolition and temperance and used his writing to help advance those ideals.
