Join Muhlenberg County Public Libraries in welcoming Kentucky Chautauqua’s Eddie Price as jockey Roscoe Tarleton Goose to Thistle Cottage on Sept. 6! The free program starts at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Goose, a native of Jeffersontown, Kentucky, is remembered as an excellent horseman. By the age of 19, he was one of the best riders in the nation and the top earner at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Three years later, in a surprise victory, he won the Kentucky Derby riding Donerail. The odds for the race were 91:1, which still holds the record for the longest odds of a Derby winner.
Goose is portrayed by author and performer Eddie Price from Hawesville.
Kentucky Chautauqua is an exclusive presentation of Kentucky Humanities with local funding provided by the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation. This program is presented in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution’s Hometown Teams exhibit, also locally sponsored by Kentucky Humanities. The Hometown Teams exhibit will be on display at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries’ Thistle Cottage Aug. 25-Sept. 29, 2018.
Hometown Teams has been made possible at Muhlenberg County Public Libraries by Kentucky Humanities with additional support from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Hometown Teams is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.
