Join Muhlenberg County Public Libraries in welcoming Kentucky Chautauqua’s Dick Usher as Peewee Reese to Thistle Cottage on Oct. 25! The free program starts at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Reese is well-known for his status as a baseball Hall of Famer. Reese was born in Meade County. He started his baseball career with the Louisville Colonels minor league team in 1937 and soon attracted attention for his skill. By 1940, he had signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers, where he was instrumental in garnering support and acceptance of Jackie Robinson.
Reese played 13 seasons with the Dodgers. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
Reese is portrayed by Dick Usher of Benton, Ky.
