The Muhlenberg County Public Libraries Board of Trustees meets on the third Monday of the month at 4:30 pm at alternate locations. The trustees will meet at the Harbin Memorial Library in February, April, June, August, October, and December. The trustees will meet at the Central City Library in January, March, May, July, September, and November. Approved minutes of library board meetings are available upon request. All meetings of the board are open to the public.
Trustees are appointed for a four year term, may serve two consecutive terms, and serve without compensation. When a vacancy occurs, two names are submitted by the Board to the Kentucky State Librarian/Commissioner. The names are then forwarded to the County Judge/Executive. Upon approval from the Fiscal Court, the trustee is appointed by the County Judge Executive.
The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for securing operating funds, adopting policies, advocating for libraries, and hiring and evaluating a Library Director. The Library Director is then responsible for reporting to the Board of Trustees, employing and supervising library staff, general management of the libraries, and maintaining all fiscal and other records necessary and that are required by local, state, and federal laws.
